Video!

Heyy!

From a request I decided to do a video of me babbling in english about what I've been up to lately (which really isn't that much, but somehow I still managed to ramble for 11 minutes)
Anyways enjoy me saying 'um' way too much and if you have any questions you'd like me to answer or any ideas for what you'd like to see on this blog just pop 'em in the comment box! :)

// Turns out we didn't have the business report today after all! Or well we did but because I missed the class on friday (due to a first aid course I forgot to tell about in the vid) and apparently they gave out the stuff we're actually supposed to write report about and I didn't get them so there was literally no use going to the thing..  I actually walked all the way to school and then met up with Brenna and the rest and found out about it so we just decided to not go and went to complain about the thing to the principal and then I just went home. Might start baking something now for the AFS thing tonight since I'm actually going to the revision class at 4pm haha.

But ye that's about it, bye!

Wellington!

Viime keskiviikkona siis kokoonnuttiin hissanluokan kanssa Mr. Jowettin kämpälle kaheksan aikoihin ja lähettiin sitten ajamaan kohti pääkaupunkia Wellingtonia kahen minibussin ja yhen henkilöauton voimin. Ajomatka kesti vajaat 7 tuntia, mikä ei tuntunu mitenkään pahalta vaikka pysähdyttiinki vaan kerran matkan puolvälissä kivassa pikkukylässä nimeltä Taihape. Ja maisemat oli muuten aika hienoja!

Last wednesday our history class met up at our history teacher Mr. Jowett's house at around 8am, from where we started driving for Wellington with two vans and a car. The drive was about 7 hours long, and even though we stopped only once at a cute town called Taihape about halfway through, it didn't seem that long at all. And the scenery was amazing!

The cutest little cafe in Taihape where I had an amazing toasted sandwich with avocado, cheese and tomato!

Mt Ruapehu!

Perillä Wellingtonissa oltiin noin kolmen aikoihin iltapäivällä ja checkattiin heti sisään meiän backpackersiin. Hetken oleskelun jälkeen ope näytti meille vähän paikkoja (se kävi yliopiston Wellingtonis) ja vei meiät Uuden-Seelannin kansallismuseoon Te Papaan missä hengailtiin pari tuntia jonka jälkeen saatiin sit vapaa-aikaa loppuillaks. Käytiin syömässä (söin vaihteeks sushia) ja ehin jopa nähdä Jemminki pitkästä aikaa! Jemmi on siis yks suomivaihtareista jonka kanssa lensin tänne sillon helmikuun lopussa :) Oli ihanaa vaihtaa kuulumisia suomeks ja mun luokkakavereitten ilmeet oli aik hupaisia ku ruvettiin kunnolla pälättää :D

We arrived to Wellington around 3pm and checked-in to the backpackers we were staying at. After a while of relaxing Mr. Jowett took us for a stroll around town and later to NZ's national museum Te Papa. We spent a few hours at the museum and then got free time for the rest of the evening. I had sushi for dinner for a change and met up with Jemmi after a looong time! Jemmi is one of the finnish AFS-students who I flew with here to New Zealand back in February :) It was so nice to meet her again and talk about stuff in finnish, and the the faces my classmates had on after we started speaking were hilarious :D

The next morning we woke up around 8am and after breakfast walked to the Holocaust museum, which was the main reason for the whole field trip. We got to look around the actual museum for a while and then we got shown a holocaust survivor's interview which was actually really eye-opening. A lot of stuff about NZ's involvement in WW2 and the overall treatment of Jews was also explained and at the end a jewish woman who had fled from Germany to NZ with her family in the 1930s (and would most likely not be alive right now would've she stayed in Germany) spoke to us about her experiences. Overall the whole museum visit was pretty intense!
Before we left we also got a guided tour in a Jewish synagogue.

Nazi propaganda in childern's book

After the museum we went to grab a quick lunch (I had the best kebab in my life) and then went for a visit to Victoria University. We got a guided tour around the whole complex and I have to say that going to uni here in NZ is starting to get really tempting if I ignore the $20k fees.. Mr. Jowett used to study at Victoria so he was really excited to be back and we got to see his old hall and old room too :D
Even though I had my camera with me I didn't realize to take photos until at the end so yeah sorry about the crappy pictures :D

The view from the library!

Yliopistolta suunnattiin sit takas backpackersiin ja saatiin vapaa-aikaa ysiin asti. Kierreltiin Brennan ja Rosen kaa shoppailukatuja (ja niiden ylikalliita putiikkeja) ja juotiin superhyvää kahvia. Käytiin syömäs taas food courtissa ja ihan tyhjästä ilmesty joku radiotoimittaja joka pyys meitä keksimään 'Do not date __ from __ because..' -tarinoita.
Ysiltä mentiin sit melkeempä koko luokka kattoo Deliver Us From Evil leffaan (olin tosi ilonen ku multa ei kysytty henkkareita k16 leffaan, tuli ihan vanha olo!)

From the university we headed back to the backpackers and got free time until 9pm. Me, Brenna and Rose went for a stroll around the shopping streets (and way too many over-priced shops) and had some reaaally great coffee along the way. We went to have a feed at the food court again and then out of nowhere came this radio reporter who asked us to come up with 'Do not date __ from __ because..' -stories. It was actually pretty fun and apparently we got to be in the radio and all :D
At 9pm pretty much the whole class went to the cinema to see Deliver Us From Evil (and I was so stoked when no one asked for my ID when I went in, made me feel really old ha) It was a pretty good horror movie and is apparently based on a true story so go watch it!
Back at the backpackers we got around midnight and because no one was tired we decided to go and hang out with Jowett for a while. The while ended up lasting until 4am when we finally decided it was probably time for sleep :D

Next morning it was friday which meant that it was time to head back to Tokoroa :( We stopped at Taihape again and instead of buying the yummy toasted sandwich I had on wednesday I bought the worst mince & cheese pie I've had so far. Still regretting it..
The weather was pretty nice and better than it had been on wednesday, so this time we actually got to see the mountains properly while driving through Desert Road! I happened to sit on the wrong side of the car however so the photos aren't that good :(

Mt Ruapehu
Mt Ngauruhoe

Lauantaina nukuinki sitte puoleenpäivään pois univelkoja ja koska sleep is for the weak menin vielä illalla AFS overnight movie night- tapaamiseen Hamiltoniin.

I got home around 4pm and because my host mum had plans for the night I was assigned as a babysitter for my host siblings for the rest of the evening. At least they behaved, which was good cause I had like zero patience to spare anyways :D
On saturday I slept til noon and because sleep is for the weak I went to an AFS overnight movie night -meeting in Hamilton the same night. Originally Tony was supposed to come too but because he had production the next morning at 9am it would've been hard to get a ride back to Tok that early. I knew some of the exchange students from the orientation camp we had in March and we mainly watched movies anyways so it was pretty fun :) We watched the Whale Rider, some weird NZ cartoon about a sheepdog, Boy, The Lovely Bones. the first Hobbit, Goodbye Pork Pie and Utu. I really liked Whale Rider and Boy, I'd seen the Hobbit and Lovely Bones like 5 times before (both are good) and the rest of the movies I didn't really get/I slept through half of them. But yeah overall it was pretty fun!

Heipat!
Ainiiin ja hauskaa koulujen alkua sinne Suomeen!! ;)

All in all life is rollin' pretty well and other than catching a cold and wagging yesterday and today from school everything is ok :) I also just realized that I'm over halfway through my exchange year! 163 days have gone by so quick it's not even funny.. I'm not quite sure yet about the date I'll go back home to Finland but if it's around mid-December then I've got less than 130 days left, which is quite scary.
But yeah anyways it's already over 2pm and I haven't even had breakfast yet so maybe I should go and make some porridge or something :D
See ya!
